Minesphere

Minesweeper variant played on the inside of a sphere! (My first time was 812) https://deltaluca.github.io/minesphere/ @aradesh posted this link to a friend's project on the Guestbook, and I thought it would be best if it was capture here as well. Pro tip: Chording works on this, so feel free to spam...

Re: Minesweeper Ace for Android

I've played a few other minesweeper apps before, but this one is by far the best one I've tried. To be fair I think it's the integrated ranking that really pushes it over the edge for me, but the implementation is very (very) solid. A few things I would suggest, coming from my experience playing it ...

Re: 2015 Minesweeper World Championship in September?

I do have some date constraints it seems though. Both the first and second week in September are impossible for me, and the third one a bit tight. Pretty please make it the last week in September :) .

Re: Custom Density (16x30@180m & 24x30@250m)

I had a look at both videos and they create a mixed impression. In the first one (on 16x30) he guesses very confidently and sometimes before really needing to, which suggests to me that he'd seen the board before. In the second one, however, he plays the first half of the board without much need for...

Re: Computing 3bv distribution

Hi aradesh, Good to hear other people are also toying with some MS-related stuff :). I've not been working on finding the exact distribution for the higher levels, but I have been working on finding the avg. 3BV for them. So far I think I've at best succeeded in predicting the avg. 3BVO (=3BV-openin...

Re: minesweeper with windows7 still not fixed

Uhm, I think you're mistaken. There is no mine under the X'd square. That's what the 'X' indicates. That square was flagged and didn't have a mine under it, which is probably also why you died. Also, if you count the mines (excluding the X'd square) you get 99, as you should. I think the biggest bug...

I reinstall Windows pretty regularly. As long you plan for it (mostly where you keep your files) it's not too much trouble and keeps everything running smoothly. Hahahahaha... Windows sucks in the long-term reliability department. I really hope Linux becomes a viable alternative for me in the futur...

Re: Win7-like Shift+LMB=RMB/chord - opinions?

Hahaha. Well if the freedom to be sloppy is what you're after then it's probably a perfectly good option :D. Personally, I don't need that safety as I've learned to not only use the right clicks where they're needed, but also to catch mistakes before they cause a blast without significant loss of mo...

Re: Sticky: The Personal Record Thread!

I seem to be quite on form of late... I got a 45.16 the day after the score I posted above, which is my second shortest game on record... I also blasted a probable 46-47 at 42 because I saw it coming... Furthermore I've also been getting lots of sub55 games... This game played itself tonight... It w...

"Solving Minesweeper with Matrices" - robertmassaioli

An interesting site was brought to mine and EWQMinesweeper's attention in the IRC: Solving Minesweeper with Matrices It explains how minesweeper can be solved using Gaussian elimination and a 'Special Rule' arising from the Boolean nature of the game (in the sense of "square X is a mine or not"). Al...

Re: pattern catalogue

Ok, this looks quite interesting... And like quite a bit of work... Let me sum up what I understand: In each position you consider every possible unknown square and evaluate what the chances are of completing the board if you start by guessing at that square. If this is what you've done then I comme...

Re: Win7-like Shift+LMB=RMB/chord - opinions?

Well, Banzhaf, if it works for you then have fun :). I must admit that the point about it separating the clicks between two hands makes it an interesting thing to consider trying out. I have one question though: Is this configuration in some way better than simply having the shift key act like the R...

Re: Win7-like Shift+LMB=RMB/chord - opinions?

To be honest, this doesn't really feel like a very useful configuration. I will indulge it for a moment though... The first action that comes to my mind when thinking about the mechanics of this idea is the flag-and-chord. For clarity: What I'm referring to is when a player depresses the RMB to flag...

Well, you'd have to send your scores to Damien for consideration. I know that he sometimes allows winmine screenshots if the times aren't too ground breaking and the player didn't know any better. You played on a clone which was legal at some point, which counts in your favour. you can find his emai...

Re: Quasi-empirical estimation of expected board completion rate

@qqwref: While you are correct that there are cases in which guessing in the totally unknown region has a greater likelihood of not putting you on a mine on the next click, a guess like this doesn't come with the same kind of guarantee of useful information as most at-the-clues guesses have. This me...

Re: Quasi-empirical estimation of expected board completion rate

Nice to see this getting some discussion :D. computronium is, of course, right in saying that EWQ's set of games isn't really submittable as proof for the accuracy of my little guess, but EWQ didn't really present it as such either. It's still fun to have his completion rate be close to what I predi...
