Re: MSX detected as malware by avira and virustotal

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, but I'm a bit at a loss for what can be done about it... :?

Re: Msx has to go away

I have released an updated version of MSX on my website which uses a better random number generator so that this issue should not occur anymore. It also has a few new features like an option to notify you when you set 3BV/s or NF records. I got a report there was an antivirus program which complaine...

Re: Msx has to go away

Thanks for bringing this to my attention; some time ago I realized that the random number generator used in MSX was really bad and that eventually this would probably happen. I even made the appropriate modifications to use a better random number generator but due to other circumstances (my PhD...) ...

Not true - the (3,1) square must be free, but that doesn't actually help you because the remaining open squares remain a 50/50.

Re: Minesweeper Super Challenge

That only applies for 3 or so rows from the edge, though, so for a board like this I would assume that most guesses appear on the interior somewhere, just because there's so much interior. I'm not so sure about that - I don't have much intuition about how likely guesses are to occur in the interior...

Re: Minesweeper Super Challenge

Curtis's estimate is actually very low. I have a program that counts the most common types of forced-guess patterns, and ran 1000 boards of the above dimensions. The average number of forced 50-50 guesses was 41.527. Awesome Michael, this is exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I shou...

Re: MySweeper - another new clone

On Windows and most Linux Desktops resizing the window is disabled. But on some Linux Desktops this does not work, so would have to fix the window size with dirty hacks. This was another problem I ran into with one of my wxWidgets programs. I discussed it with the wxWidgets developers on their bug ...

Re: MySweeper - another new clone

Nice, I like this clone's features! The only bug i'm having is that the window isn't being resized properly on application launch, screenshot attached. When i switch levels, everything becomes okay. I also have this problem - and I've struggled with it for my own wxWidgets programs as well! In Ubunt...

Re: Minesweeper Super Challenge

Hi guys, I talked with some CineMassive representatives about this challenge. My understanding is they are still working out how the competition will work, and deciding on which rules would be most appropriate. One question which arose: How many guesses (after hitting an opening) would one expect wh...

Largest solved boards

I was contacted by someone who is running Minesweeper X on a gigantic screen (their boards have nearly 200,000 squares). To reach an expert density they actually need more mines than MSX currently allows, so I'll be providing an update for that. They wanted to know what the largest solved board with...

Re: 1 mine or 2 mines? what are the odds?

It certainly does depend on the number of mines and squares left: if the board has a high density of mines on the remaining squares then it will be more likely to be a 2-mine pattern. Formally, if the board has m mines and n unshown squares about which you know no information then there are ( n choo...

I sometimes see Rodrigo available on Microsoft's messenger, but he wont respond to any of my messages.

I don't know where to go from here; I guess the clone really has been abandoned. It's a sad state of affairs.

Re: The Clone must go

To make sure everyone is on the same page, here's the story so far: The bug was found in early March 2012, and Rodrigo was emailed shortly afterward, but he didn't respond. Because of the seriousness of the bug, I made additional efforts to contact him and succeeded in early May 2012. At that time h...

Re: Win7-like Shift+LMB=RMB/chord legal?

I don't like that this breaks minesweeper behaviour consistency. On the other hand, if there aren't specific rules about how input is entered perhaps one could set their OS to recognize ctrl+click as right click. By the way, double (left) click also acts as a chord on windows 7, so you would also ha...

Re: Seeking version that allows ctrl-click to sweep

I assume you mean shift-click? Of the 'official' clones, only MSX supports that. (On Linux you have to use WINE to run it, however.)

You're in luck about freesweeper, though. I don't know if Cryslon saw your post but less than 2 days later your concerns were addressed!

Re: Freesweeper - a new cross-platform clone

Actually, Date vs. Time might be an even more natural thing to plot. IIRC clone can do that; does fsweep have that as well? I'm not sure what you have in mind, and i'm not able to run Clone to see what it can do. The x-axis records the date the record was recorded on (so the points are horizontally...

Re: Freesweeper - a new cross-platform clone

Looking good Cryslon! :D However, there is a problem playing events with negative time; here's an example. PR.rawvf.zip I'm unable to design the thing. The default list is too large; i made 3bv the default value of the custom counter instead. Actually, Date vs. Time might be an even more natural thi...

Yeah, Clone 0.97 should only be allowed if there is absolutely no alternative. (Would anyone be willing to look through all Clone 0.97 vids to check for Funny Mode?) But Funny Mode is trivial to activate without going to the trouble of signifying that you are using it, so I don't think this really ...

Re: Freesweeper - a new cross-platform clone

Here's a video where a button gets stuck in the pressed state. Also, I noticed if you click and drag off the board the first cell you pass when you come back isn't animated. I was able to fix the cursor issue: I needed to update ~/.icons/default/index.theme in addition to /usr/share/icons/default/in...

Re: Freesweeper - a new cross-platform clone

OK, looks good, except now if you chord with a right click the smiley gets stuck in the guessing state. Also, I've attached a video that I saved that fsweep says is invalid. Other things: I can only see the rightmost 3 digits on the y axis labels of the cloud graph. Also, I think 3BV should be in th...

Re: Open, human-readable minesweeper video format

Thanks Cryslon. I updated mvr2rawvf so that it outputs to RawVF revision 5. It now uses negative time for events before the game starts and specifies the true mouse state for mouse_move events. Additionally, it uses the player name from the video file if available. And I have some news: I was able t...

Re: Freesweeper - a new cross-platform clone

I figured out that the history file error only occurs on the Density tab, which is maybe not implemented yet? The "Overview" table also doesn't seem to work, but the reason the graphs weren't working is because they default to Exp and I only play Int. By the way, I don't know if there's anyth...

fsvf's are showed now. Are you able to watch rawvf's? Yes, and now watching AVFs work. I noticed in Kamil's 7.27 Int WR there is a depressed square in the upper-right corner which doesn't get refreshed. Make sure you have the rights to write to ~/freesweeper.history. That can't be it; I can see the...

Re: Freesweeper - a new cross-platform clone

Could you please describe how to reproduce the segfault on dragging? I haven't managed that. Weird, it seems to sometimes crash when I drag a rawvf file very quickly onto the window. It acts like the file was rejected but it leaves "ghosts" over the gameboard. And the counters aren't cleared on a c...
