Wow, crazy. You found some really high and low boards too. I remember my billion took a while - did you use a special algorithm for this, or just use a lot of processing power?

Re: Clients which always give openings

I think you're focusing too much on a great start. You do want to find some kind of opening within the first few clicks, but (at least in Expert) your time will be determined much more by the layout of the whole board than by the biggest opening or easiest section. And in fact, at your level, you sh...

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that any nonosweeper results *but Harryck's* were cheated. He did get a lot of results though, if you consider all those tournaments.

Re: Harryck Cheat Admission

Hehe, I admit my 39 was very lucky, but I have been getting a lot of sub50s as well as two more 42s recently :p If anyone wants to see my arbiter stats file or all my recent games I'm happy to send a zip their way. Really, I've just been playing a lot lately, and trying to complete boards more often...

Why does it make an explosion every time you do a move? That looks really unpleasant. I can't imagine trying to do this quickly.

I'm biased, so take everything I say with several grains of salt. I did notice he has his mouse button depressed for a long time before some clicks, but I don't think it's enough to necessarily say it's Elmar technique. The reason is, a while ago I posted an idea for a NF clicking technique where yo...

Re: Need help solving this, pls

You have a 3 next to a 0 on an edge, and I see a 5 next to a 1 and a 6 next to a 2 as well. Under normal Minesweeper rules, it's not solvable. Do you have any other info about it?

Re: Minesweeper Super Challenge

No guess patterns is pretty easy to do, and does help a lot. I implemented that in my javascript program ( http://mzrg.com/js/mine/multi.html , choose the "no guess patterns" game), so it's not too hard and doesn't require that much computational power. There would still be several guesses, or areas...

Re: Minesweeper Super Challenge

Sure, here's the code I used. It's in JavaScript, which is not super fast, but it's good enough for a rough idea of how many guesses you can find.

If you want to change the size and number of boards, modify lines 33 and 34.

Re: Minesweeper Super Challenge

I didn't look at where the guesses are located, no. There are more guesses per square near walls and corners, because anything outside the board is essentially a mine, in the sense that you can't see the number. That only applies for 3 or so rows from the edge, though, so for a board like this I wou...

Re: Minesweeper Super Challenge

First, in general, we wanted to collect your thoughts on whether the game will be simply too difficult to complete within 12 hours in its current form (262x718 board with 38,799 mines at expert level). [...] With that, as Curtis mentioned, we have also been evaluating whether the number of forced g...

@EWQMinesweeper: Thanks for putting me in your list, I'm honored :) @benjamin172: 50x50 with 25% density? How long did it take to finally finish a board? @EWQMinesweeper again: I think the biggest coopmines board was 45x48, which is "only" 2160 squares. Re: can you solve the 10 hardest logic puzzles ever created?

The other day I spent most of the day on it (off and on) and got probably 90%, stuck on the lower left area. I used a bit of help from the "check squares" thing, but not for guess-and-check, just to make sure I didn't make mistakes (which I did several times). It's quite a tough puzzle. I'm thinking...

Re: The Clone must go

we have discovered major security flaws in Clone Actually, the Chinese community discovered the "funny mode" bug. I'm pretty sure somebody from China discovered the bug as well. I didn't mean "we" as in "us amazing English speakers", but rather "the Minesweeper community". Sorry for the confusion.

Re: The Clone must go

I think maybe some Chinese sweepers will see this as something the English-speaking community is doing to push the Chinese-speaking community away. It's important to be clear that that isn't true at all. Instead, I would say this: we have discovered major security flaws in Clone, to the point that w...

I love this idea! I'd help out, but the only other language I know is French, and not nearly as well as a native speaker. Just to lay out some groundwork, the biggest first steps on organization would be - Make sure all official clones, websites, etc. are easy to convert into other languages. Arbite...

Re: The Clone must go

Yes, get rid of it. And someone should make a better official clone for Chinese players before then. Perhaps a version of Arb or Freesweeper.

I, for one, would like to know all about the security holes and glitches (after the 30th of course).

Nah, it just eliminates common guess patterns. Uncommon ones (and cases where you are simply stuck) can still pop up :p

Re: Which of the MS programs can generate solvable games?

I don't know if any of the ones in that list can do this. However, Simon Tatham's version can, and it will even generate high quality games on up to, say, 170 or so mines on a 16x30 board. You can download it here or play it online here.
