Does anyone else here stream on Twitch?

Recently, I started streaming on Twitch (at http://twitch.tv/0xGG). Although I usually stream Agar.io, I have occasionally streamed minesweeper. I was wondering if anyone else in the minesweeper community actively streams, and think it would be nice to have a thread in which to get to know each othe...

Incidentally, I'm not quite sure what that flag over in the far right side of the screen is doing.

Linux-Friendly Clones

Are there any versions of clones that are linux-friendly? I've tried downloading both Arbiter and MSX onto my Ubuntu and neither work.

Re: 1 mine or 2 mines? what are the odds?

If one's goal is to win as frequently as possible, one should assume that it's one mine, since sane minesweeper is almost exclusively played in mine densities less than one-half. This is, however, minesweeper, and we're usually looking for having few specific games to go very well (won with greatest...

Two 7s

I got an expert board with two 7s today. I think I've had one with three 7s before, but I blasted that one (before I got to the 7s). I remember in that case the 7s were also in close vicinity. If one mine moved to make one of them an 8, this board would have had all the numbers represented. Darn. Ha...

Birthday Field in Profile

I just realized that the birthday field in the minesweeper.info profiles can't seem to be edited from the fields available after login. I personally don't wish to put my birthday online, but I would like to at least put my birth year. How do I do it?

Aryeh Draeger Record History

How did this happen? Is this due to XP not having a lower 3BV limit or is this a misplaced or mistyped score? I ask because it doesn't seem to make sense in the context of his Intermediate scores either.

Re: Sticky: The Personal Record Thread!

any time I encounter a 140 or lower 3BV board with a pattern like that, it has a mine in it. Such mines would tend to make for lower 3BV boards (although only by a fairly small amount), as it lessens the need for clicks. In that mine were moved to say, the middle of an opening, one extra click woul...

Re: Sticky: The Personal Record Thread!

With boards of expert density, though, it would still be an exponentially increasing need of guessing, just much smaller due to the smaller base for the number of guesses (and consequently also growing at a smaller rate). So, yes, 50% density is drastically more luck-intensive than 20% density, but ...

Re: Sticky: The Personal Record Thread!

Although amounts of luck increase substantially, there is still lots of room for strategy, mostly probabilistic but still existent. I've done a beginner board up to about 43% density (and according to Custom Rankings, some have gone over 50%), and I'd say there's still more strategy than luck at tha...

Re: Sticky: The Personal Record Thread!

On that topic, I've always wondered what the optimally hardest percentage of mine density is, or if it varies across board sizes. Just to pick a nice number, I'll conjecture that it moves toward 1/sqrt2 as board sizes become larger. I don't see a need to limit ourselves to Intermediate and Expert de...

According to Wikipedia, the game was existent in the 1970s, but I can't seem to find when the name "Minesweeper" came about.

http://www.minesweeper.info/custom.php?level=16x16

Nathanael Kozinski's video shows that it's a 16x30 board. I was a bit shocked when I first looked at the list and saw the >50% mine density listed. :P

Re: US States and National Top Three Sums

Sorry; I don't. I made this with MS Paint. As expected, first-world privileges like Minesweeper seem to correlate well with GDP, accounting for both wealth and population. Perhaps comparing country GDP to minesweeper times would be interesting. I was surprised by Iowa's excellent performance in this...

US States and National Top Three Sums

I made two colored maps showing the sum of the top three individual totals in US states and in countries of the world. Note that all individual times were rounded up pre-summing, so the actual sum may be up to 9 seconds less than the amount shown, but the general rank of countries should be pretty a...

Re: Reduced-Guessing Minesweeper

Hi; sorry if I didn't word in a way that carries my intention over. I was exaggerating with the "painful"—I'm perfectly fine with minesweeper as it is but I'm also suggesting an "alternative" game—I'm not suggesting that minesweeper change its rules.

Reduced-Guessing Minesweeper

Forced guesses are quite painful, especially in expert games. What set of "alternate rules" for minesweeper do you think would make a game that requires less guessing? Here's a possible alternate game I thought of: when a mine is marked, it also shows the number of mines in the eight squares around ...

The following is on 48.5: Recently, I was playing Arbiter is Custom Mode when I minimized it. For some reason, when I restored Arbiter, the timer did not seem to move. Re: Arbiter development

I believe I have found the cause of the occurrence left-click becoming a double-click glitch. It happens when after right clicking and keeping the button held down the mouse is moved off the matrix of cells, and the button is released while the mouse is still off of the matrix. Upon putting the mous...
