Re: Lucky mode

OK, most of what EWQ said was just random insults and stuff that has nothing to do with the argument, so I'll reply to the useful stuff: only looking at all boards isn't enough here. you willingly ignore that depending on where you start you might blast, that sweepers make mistakes and do not see pa...

Re: Lucky mode

carpal tunnel syndrome and other injuries to the hand, wrist and arm were and still are not uncommon among the elite sweepers. Yeah, and? I was talking about a situation where making something safer did, in fact, lead to people pushing themselves harder than they used to. Just because MS players ha...

Re: Lucky mode

But football is a sport that pits teams against each other in a match, as opposed to individuals (or teams) getting scores that are compared later. So changes hurt much less, because you don't have a definitive score to compare after a match anyway That's true, but it's still an instance of people ...

But as far as I know, Usain Bolt does not risk his life more or less because injuries can be treated better nowadays. He doesn't say "OK, I can abuse my body 30% more than Jesse Owens, because I'll have approximately the same chance of a fatality or serious injury over the next 3 years that way, bu...

Re: 3bv limits

The first one: because a metric that is affected by rotation/reflection does a poor job of representing human play - plus, you could have the situation where a board is considered too easy but the reflected board is considered OK, which is unfair. The second one: because that means the cutoff is ran...

Re: 3bv limits

This is at least the second time you've brought up big-oh notation. I think it's completely irrelevant how something grows for large numbers, because people are playing boards of specific sizes. When it comes to timing, the only question is this: when playing boards of a reasonable size (let's say 2...

Re: 3bv limits

You're pretty much just suggesting my "8-Way ZiNi" idea from at least a year ago. And yeah, it's not affected by changes, but it takes 8 times as long as ZiNi. I think we need something less slow.

Re: Scoreganizer development

When we're logged in, can you put a "My Tournaments" link on the left? As I imagine it, it would show all tournaments I have participated in, and also the future ones I've signed up for. And I agree that sum and username should be closer - one option would be to put the sum at both the left and righ...

Re: Lucky mode

Speaking of difficulty limits, I don't like the idea of ZiNi limits because: - The metric itself is not perfect. For instance most of its decisions are based on information that may not be possible to obtain during gameplay, and the ZiNi value of a board changes if the board is placed in a different...

Re: Sticky: The Personal Record Thread!

Not sure how much this counts, since it's not a normal MS board, but 44.59 on Beta-Expert (24x24 99mines). 142 3BV at 3.18 3BV/s. I can probably do even better since it's an easier board than Exp, but a 45 is pretty good for now :)

Hang on, I already have a program to analyze this. Mine has three types of 50-50 patterns stored: - 50/50 on square (0,0) and (0,1), and also the same pattern vertically - the 2x2 square - 50/50 on square (0,0) and (0,1), and (0,3) and (0,4), and also the same pattern vertically Out of 100k exp boar...

Great idea. I see it's already used by Freenode, which means I've used this chat before and it works nicely. I really like the idea of having the chat easily accessible from the main website - even a big link from the front page would be good.

Re: Sticky: The Personal Record Thread!

Nice int records guys! I did really well in this last tourn... 2x9 (was hoping for 10, oh well) on beg, 11 and then 13x4 on int, and three sub50s on exp. And some new records/interesting stuff: - Beat many top20 players (although I probably played more than them) - New NF exp 3bv/s record: 3.627 -> ...

Re: Open the AR

Yeah, that would be pretty cool, for sure. I think an automatic-AR-updating clone could be made using something similar to scoreganizer: - There is a 0+1+1 "AR Tournament", automatically created for each 2-week period; - All videos are automatically sent to the current AR Tournament, users don't nee...

Re: Clone - Chinese Problem

Yeah, Clone 0.97 should only be allowed if there is absolutely no alternative. (Would anyone be willing to look through all Clone 0.97 vids to check for Funny Mode?)

Also, if we can't contact Rodrigo by e-mail... I did find a recent-ish address for his school, so maybe an inquiry there would help.

Re: Open the Wiki

Well, I don't mean we should necessarily explain exactly how to use certain techniques and which ones are easy or hard to detect - but we should at least have enough info for people to know what we mean when we say "the mouse movement doesn't look human", or to understand why the community considers...

Re: Open the Wiki

Hi, here are some of my ideas for more things to include in the Wiki: - "List of board sizes" article, plus an article for each relatively well-known board size. - Articles for important MS players - fast people, administrators, cheaters, etc. - Articles for major MS versions, including official clo...

Re: Article/Rant about the guestbook

My view of the guestbook is that it is good for people who "drop by" the community and want to say something without registering. I agree with this - both formats have their values. Nowadays, though, forums are so common that many people are used to signing up and making a post just to say hi. (Of ...

Open the Wiki

I think the minesweeper.info wiki should be open for anyone to contribute - that is, anyone can create an account and start editing the pages. The wiki format is designed for this type of work, and for many people to collaborate on creating an article over time. The current way the wiki is run just ...

Sticky: The Personal Record Thread!

Post any personal records here - time, 3BV/s, RQP, IOE, anything. It doesn't matter if you use FL or NF. Feel free to respond to people's records here too. If you are familiar with the Nonosweeper forums, this is more or less the equivalent of this topic: http://www.simplismgames.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Y...

Ideas for New Tournament Formats

Before I start, I'd like to say that I really like the current 3-hour 5+5 format. It's a good standard, there is enough time to play plenty of boards, and there are enough boards in the sum so that luck doesn't play a huge factor. However - if we are going to do large online tournaments, or even a t...

Re: NF 3BV/s Ranking

He had a game labeled NF in his folder with 4.26 3bv/s, but on looking at the video itself it's definitely FL. The best NF result in his 3bv/s folder is 3.249 (50.17 on 163). So that's the best I can confirm for him.

Re: NF 3BV/s Ranking

Updated. I could add the second ranking but I'll have to think about the best way to do it... and also I want to wait until I have some better data (for instance, see Roman's beginner score, or Pavel's exp). Most people don't properly list their NF 3bv/s records.
