This is a familiar game of old adapted for the OS-9 Windowing Operating System. The playing field is a grid of sectors, 9 sectors high and 14 sectors wide. You occupy one entire sector at a time, and a move is made from one sector to any of the up to eight adjoining sectors. Your initial position in the grid is the upper left sector. Your goal is Headquarters, located in the lower right sector. Between you, the grid represents a minefield. For each game, you are allowed to choose the number of mines that are placed in the minefield. You must choose a number between 10 and 40 [...] Your mission is to take a secret message to Headquarters without stepping on a mine (and blowing yourself up!).
The game was originally sold separately before being bundled as an OS-9 Game Pack. An IMS MM/1 version of the pack was also released. At some point the OS-9 version was updated to Version 2.0.
The following attributes can be used to map the evolution of Minesweeper. Blue cells are confirmed attributes for official versions of Minefield. Yellow cells are unknown.
