"Take command of the advanced mine scanner aboard your helicopter and begin the hunt for all the mines laid down by the enemy. As you scan the minefield, drones will report back on how many mines are detected in an area. Use these markings to assist in finding all the mines. Hurry, your time is limited! The area that you need to clear of mines is divided into a grid of squares. Several of the squares will have landmines hidden beneath them. The goal of your mission is to identify where all of the landmines are hidden without actually setting one off.
The original version of Minehunter has three grids (10*10, 16*10, 20*10) and three difficulty levels (Beginner, Moderate, Advanced) for mine density. There is no chording. When you hit a mine there are explosions and the screen shakes. Your score is in milliseconds.
According to intellivision.us, Kinnen created the game in 2002 and spent 9 months programming it. With some help, in 2004 the game was officially published as a games cartridge complete with box cover art.
In 2009 the game was published online using Flash. This version added flags and allows grids from 10*10 with 5 mines to 25*25 with 620 mines.
The following attributes can be used to map the evolution of Minesweeper. Blue cells are confirmed attributes for official versions of Minehunter. Yellow cells are unknown.
