The game is a 35*19 grid with hidden mines. The first game starts with 20 mines and this increases by 2 mines each game regardless of whether you have won or lost the level. The mine detector works in diagonal directions and tells you the number of mines within two moves of your location.
The book "Commodore 64 Games" states "this is a version of Minefield adapted from one originally written for the PET". This sentence correctly credits the genre to Minefield (1979) but the game is actually based on Landmine (1983) from the book "VIC Games". Bergin also wrote a book called "VIC Games" but left Minefield out of his edition.
The following attributes can be used to map the evolution of Minesweeper. Blue cells are confirmed attributes for official versions of Minefield. Yellow cells are unknown.
