Minesweeper Flags (2003)



Overview
Minesweeper Flags was introduced in MSN Messenger in 2003.

Minesweeper Flags is a multiplayer version of Minesweeper where the goal is to flag more mines than your opponent. The grid is 16*16 with 51 mines and the first player to flag 26 mines wins. If you do not flag a mine you lose your turn. Each player has a one-off option to bomb a 5*5 area of the grid but this option can only be used if you are losing.

  • MSN Messenger was introduced in 1999. Games were introduced in 2003. The service was rebranded Windows Live Messenger in 2006 with users migrated onto Skype in 2013. The original MSN Messenger servers were closed and it is no longer possible to play the original Minesweeper Flags game.
  • Microsoft released a variant also called Minesweeper Flags for the Xbox in 2009.
