Mine! - Game Overview

Mine! was written by Richard Vannoy in April 1991.

MINE! is a challenging of logic and skill for players of all ages. The player sets the level of difficulty by selecting the number of mines he/she places in the mine field. The mines are set at random locations (squares) throughout the playing area. As the player moves a mine detector "vehicle" around, a mine detector shows how many mines are in the adjacent squares, but not specifically where they are. By logic and inferrence, the player can deduce which squares are mined and which are clear. Ten to 40 mines are pretty easy, 75 or more mines are very difficult. The object is to "clear" all areas that do not have a mine, and to leave only those squares with mines. The player's vehicle can run over five mines before being damaged beyond repair, however, each mine hit significantly reduces the player's score. When all of the clear squares have been identified, or the player decides to quit, play stops. If the player's score is among the top fifteen scores, their name is entered in the high scores list. The main menu offers the choices: Play the Game, Read the Directions, Register, See the Top Scores, Reset the Top Scores, or return to DOS. The player can stop the game at any time by pressing either the F10 or ESCape key. Sound can be toggled ON or OFF with F9.

The grid is 29x14 with 10 to 100 mines. You receive 50 points for every correctly marked or opened square, stepping on a mine costs 20% of your life and lowers your score. The game saves your best 15 scores. Instead of showing a number in each square the game uses graphics to represent the number of mines.

Mine! requires an IBM compatible computer, 256K RAM, an EGA or VGA Monitor and MS-DOS 2.11 or higher.
