Hewlett Packard Unix (HP-UX) was publicly released in 1984 based on the earlier System V Unix operating system from AT&T. The last release was 11.31 (11i v3) in 2007 with support ending in 2025. In the 1980s it was used on workstations but during the 1990s it became more common as a server operating system. The original windows system was proprietary (HP Windows/9000) but in 1988 X Windows support was added and in 1990 the original system was replaced with Motif (an X Windows desktop). Motif was in turn was replaced with CDE (Common Desktop Environment based on Motif) in 1996.
