Minehunt - Game Overview
Minehunt was written for the HP48SX in 1990 by an unknown author.
Minehunt was included in the HP Solve Equation Library card (February 1990) and was later included with all HP 48 calculator models. It was ported to the HP 38, 39, 40, 49 and 50 models by Jordi Hidalgo. The game can be found in the UTILS folder or by typing MINEHUNT.
In the game, you are standing in the upper-left corner of an 8 x 16 battlefield grid. Your mission is to travel safely to the lower-right corner, avoiding invisible mines along the way. The game tells you how many mines are under the eight squares adjacent to your position. The game starts asking you how many mines will be in the battlefield. By default, there are 20 mines. You can change that number by entering the new desired value (1 to 64), which will become the new default.
There are 128 cells and although the objective is to cross the minefield your score is the number of cleared cells. There are no highscores. You navigate with the keypad and open cells by moving into each cell. It is possible to save a game in order to replay it later.
If you enter a negative number of mines they are visible during the game. This was a feature (not a cheat) to help players learn the game.
