minefield
Mine Field was written in 1985 for HP-UX by Keith Marchington.
Mine Field is a 15x10 grid and you must cross the minefield using number clues. You may select between 1 and 99 mines before starting a game and you use the keyboard to navigate. There are no highscores but you receive a score for each game (number of steps) and there is a "safeties" counter (number of cells marked safe).
The game was included in an Integral Games pack. Games included Boggle, Minefield, Fish, Fortune, Hangman, Snake, Arithmetic, Back, Blackjack, Craps, Maze, Mov, Quiz, TTT, Cribbage, Rain, Rivers and Senet. Interestingly, the Hangman dictionary includes the words mine, minefield, minelayer, minesweep and minesweeper. The games were released on 3.5 inch floppy disks in DS/DD format and the download includes these as Teledisk compressed disk images.
Keith was a software development engineer at HP when they released the HP Integral PC in 1985. He submitted Mine Field v0.00 with the title "The Explosive Game of Mine Field".
