Mines - Game Overview

David Norris wrote Mines for Windows 3.0 in 1990 while working at Microsoft.

The player must find a path from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. The number of mines touching a square is shown by the cursor and the player also must navigate around the blue water squares. You mark mines with an X using the left mouse button and you move using the arrow keys on the keyboard. There are four difficulty levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert. All levels are 30x24 with mines ranging from 56 to 102 and water squares ranging from 60 to 120. There is an Autoplay feature that will open all squares touching no mines.

Norris worked at Microsoft and collaborated with the Bogus Software team which had a friendly rivalry with the Duff Software team that published Minesweeper in 1990. The original Win Mine help file makes fun of his game!
