Wise Minesweeper was written in 2002 by Alexey Slovesnov.

I liked play minesweeper very mach, but I think that is has some disadvantages, which I've corrected in my version on this game. Basically I don't like routine operations, which player should do, especially if playing field big.

The game has an "Automatically set up flags" option which flags obvious mines and an "Automatic mode" which automatically chords. If both features are turned on you can sometimes win Intermediate in a single click but games won using these functions do not count for Highscores. You can play custom games with 1 mine to (X*Y)-1 mines and grids from 8x8 to infinite but if you enter a large grid size such as 1000*1000 the first click will crash the computer due to memory overflow. Two more features are the ability to choose custom games by percentage density and to change the size of squares.

Difficulty levels are Novice (8x8 with 10 mines), Beginner (16x16 with 40 mines) and Expert (30x16 with 99 mines). The author claims to have improved several Windows Minesweeper bugs which are detailed on his website (which is included in the download). However, Wise Minesweeper has three bugs in custom mode which include the memory overflow issue, warning "too many bombs" when trying to choose 0 bombs and the game not finishing with (X*Y)-1 mines after your first click unless you manually flag every mine.
