Bomb Patrol was written for Windows in 1999 by Mark Roth.
Bomb Patrol is a simple strategy game in which you try to collect a certain amount of coins within a given time. Along the way, you must uncover question marks that may have bombs hidden underneath them. Eventually, you will uncover enough question marks to find the required number of coins. Collect a coin by running over it with your tank. You can tell how many coins you need to collect by looking at the top of your screen. If you collect enough coins before your time runs out, you advance to the next level. If, however, your time runs out, the game is over and you must start again.
When you advance to a new level, or when you pause the game, you are given a level password. Copy down this password so that you need not start from level 1 every time you play again. You can enter your password from the title screen by selecting the "Level Password" option. There are eight levels in total, each one more challenging than the last. If you beat all eight levels, you win the game and your tank becomes invincible until you press Escape.
The game involves Minesweeper strategy but is a very different Arcade game. You open squares by shooting them with your tank (using the [enter] button from up to 3 squares distance) and you can flag squares (using the [shift] button from up to 3 squares distance). However, you can often win a level simply by driving your tank around the screen collecting coins. Higher levels have larger grids so the game scrolls as you drive off the screen. There are no highscores.
Bomb Patrol requires a 256 colour monitor and was originally Shareware for $6.50 which unlocks a Level editor!
