Kaboooom was written for DOS in 1989 by Thomas Eldredge II.
The game is similar to Relentless Logic as you need to cross a 15x9 grid with 10 to 40 mines using number clues. New features include the ability to mark suspected mines with [M] and safe locations by [0] with a "safeGame" option to prevent you walking onto marked mines. In addition, numbers remain in cells after you move. If you press [?] the game will solve all obvious squares.
The code was published in Dr. Dobbs magazine on 1 April 1990 as an example program using the TopSpeed C compiler. The article says "The author would like to thank Thomas D. Eldredge II for the use of his source code for KABOOOOM.C. Tom's program represents an enhancement of a game called RELENTLESS LOGIC by Conway, Hong, and Smith".
Code compiled by minesweepergame in 2021 using Borland C++ 4.0 on Windows 98. Code does not compile in later versions of Borland (due to interupt requirements).
